Jerry Caleb Walters, 68, of Prairie Drive, Lexington died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 surrounded by his family at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 30, 2012 at North Lexington Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Gavin Pratt. Mr. Walters was born in Mecklenburg County on November 17, 1943 to Caleb Powers and Ethel Odom Walters. A veteran of the US Army, he was a retired cab driver for Blue Bird Cab Company in Winston-Salem, NC. He is survived by five sons, Jerry A. Walters of Kannapolis, Thomas A. Walters, Sr. and wife Debbie of Lexington, Tracy Walters and wife Ashley of Gainsville, Ga., Herman “Ted” Walters and wife Jennifer of Homer, Ga., and Todd Walters of Pulaski, Va.; four daughters, Teresa Woods and husband Danny, Tamara Shaw, and Trina Ledford and husband Benjamin all of Gainsville, Ga., and Amy Macias and husband David of Pulaski, Va.; nineteen grandchildren, and twenty-five great-grandchildren. A special thank you goes to the staff of Brookstone Retirement Center, including Jennifer Walters, Tabitha Walters, and Marlene Hartley for providing him a place of comfort and security in his final days. “Life is a gift of God.
