Jerry Eggers

Jerry Clinton Eggers, 86, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Born on May 13, 1940, in Lenoir, North Carolina, Jerry was the son of Roy Clinton Eggers and Margaret McLean Eggers. Early in his life, the Eggers family relocated to Lexington, where Jerry attended Lexington City Schools and graduated from Lexington Senior High School.

In 1961, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on active duty until 1964, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Third Class (E-4). He completed his military service at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in recognition of his honorable and faithful service.

Following his military service, Jerry returned to North Carolina and began a long career with the State of North Carolina as a correctional officer. His career took him to correctional facilities throughout the state over the course of many years. He eventually returned to Davidson County, where he continued his career before retiring after many years of dedicated public service. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Roy Clinton and Margaret McLean Eggers, and his brother, Robert Sheldon Eggers.

Jerry had a keen eye for detail and was an observant and knowledgeable man who took an interest in the world and events happening around him. He kept himself well informed and was known for paying close attention to details that others might overlook.

Jerry was a member of his church, and his faith remained an important part of his life. Following his retirement, he enjoyed living a quiet and peaceful life in Lexington after many years of service to his state and country.

Burial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Lexington City Cemetery, West Fourth Street, Lexington, North Carolina 27292. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jerry's memory to Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, in recognition of his faith and connection to the church.
