Jean Ghent

Jean Anne Summey Ghent, 82, of Riverside Drive, died Saturday, October 17 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, October 20 at Higher Ground Baptist Church, by the Rev. Jimmy Greene. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Piedmont Funeral Home. Mrs. Ghent was born January 17, 1933 in Columbia, SC to Clyde Snipes and Beatrice Hilton Snipes. She retired from Cone Mills in Salisbury and was of the Baptist Faith. She loved playing and writing Blue Grass music, crafting, gardening, and spending time with all of her family. Her son, Jerry Woodrow Ghent, her foster parents, Hyacinth Hilton Summey, Ray M. Summey and Edward Gordon Summey, and her brother, Clyde Snipes, Jr., preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne Bruce and husband, Monte, and Betty Shoemaker and husband, Mike, all of Salisbury, Glenda McCombe and husband, John “Bud” of Linwood; her sons, Howard Ghent, Jr. and wife Sue of Lancaster, SC, and Ronnie Ghent and wife, Diane, of Salisbury; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
