James Odell “Corky” York, 68, of Old Linwood Rd. died unexpectedly Monday, April 4, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, his daughter’s special friend Cody Lee Wooten, and close neighbor Scott Fulk. A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM Saturday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Lewis Johns. Military honors provided by the Davidson County Honor Guard will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home, and other times at the home of his father-in-law, David Kephart on Old Linwood Road. Mr. York was born in Davidson County June 5, 1947 to Joel and Ruby Thomas York. He was an Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam War. A graduate of the Electronics Program of Davidson County Community College, he was formerly employed as a Tymnet computer technician by McDonnell-Douglas Corporation/Novadyne, retiring later from Lanier Hardware. A member of the Christian faith, he had a magnetic personality that led to numerous acquaintances and friends. A lifetime sportsman, he was an avid fisherman, with particular enjoyment of fly fishing. As a guitarist, his genre’ was the blues and rock and roll music. Corky was also a bowyer, fletcher, and archer. Surviving are his wife, Susan Kephart York; son Jesse David York; and daughter Sarah Ellen York all of the home.
