James Darrell Kimbrell, Sr.

James Darrell Kimbrell, Sr., 79, of Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, formerly of Tyro Road died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the nursing center. A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM Monday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Interment will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home. Mr. Kimbrell was born in Davidson County December 30, 1937 to the late Wilbur Stokes, Sr. and Hilda Phelps Kimbrell. Retired from PPG, he was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and the Davidson County Fireman’s Association. He was also a retired fire chief for the Tyro Fire Department. Surviving are his wife Nell Leonard Kimbrell of the home; son James Darrell Kimbrell, Jr. and wife Sharon of Linwood; daughter Kathy Darnell Kimbrell of Linwood; brothers Wilbur Stokes Kimbrell, Jr. and wife Helen, Bill Eugene Kimbrell and wife Pat, and Paul Wayne Kimbrell and wife Bonnie all of Lexington; grandchildren Jamie Leigh Waddell and Lisa Ann Wolfe and husband Josh; great-grandchildren Curtis Waddell and Rylin Wolfe; and many loving nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his special “grandpaws” Roxie and Gracie. Memorials may be made to the Davidson County Rescue Squad, PO Box 122, Lexington, NC 27293.
