James Louis Heitman, Sr. 84 of Mt. Carmel Road, Lexington, died December 11, 2010 at his residence. A Memorial Service will be held at Reeds United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 19 2010, with the Rev. Gary Foster officiating. The Randolph County Honor Guard will provide military graveside rites. Mr. Heitman was born in Davidson County, December 20, 1925, to the late Raymond Heitman and Bertha Shaw Heitman. Also preceding him in death was 4 brothers, David Heitman, William (Pete) Heitman, Ira (Mark ) Heitman and R. J. Heitman; 1 sister Margie Heitman Floyd. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Class at Reeds United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir until his health declined. He also served as past Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Heitman had retired from Baker Furniture of Mocksville with 30 years of service. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Doris Byrd Heitman of the home; 2 sons Jim Heitman and wife Karon of Spartanburg, SC; Tim Heitman and his wife Lillie of Colorado Springs. CO.; 1 daughter Jeanine Heitman Tate and her husband Donnie of Lexington; 6 grandchildren, Lynette Heitman Swicegood and her husband Marc, Renee Heitman Tesh and her husband Brian, Kari Tate Martin, Matt Tate and his wife Alisa all of Lexington, and Ben Heitman and Mark Heitman of Colorado Springs, CO.; 4 great grandchildren, Jacob Berrier, Kure Tesh, Emily Stacy and Lauren Tate all of Lexington,; 2 step great grand children, Daniel Martin of Lexington, and Stewart Martin of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Shirley Rhodes, Myrtle Everhart, Vernell Sutherland and her husband Charles all of Lexington; 2 brothers, Vernon Heitman and his wife Mary Ellen, and Rodney Heitman and his wife Jeanette, all of Lexington; 2 brothers-in-law , Carl (Pete) Byrd and his wife Betty of Mauldin, SC and Gary (Mickey) Byrd and his wife Mildred of Mechanicsville, VA. The family has requested no flowers, but memorials may be made to Reeds United Methodist Church Choir Fund, 4731 West Old Highway 64, Lexington, N.C., 27295 or West Davidson Food Pantry, c/o Rev.Gary Foster, 1002 S.
