Irene Barnes Koontz

Irene Barnes Lopp Koontz, 95, of the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury, and formerly of Horseshoe Neck Road, Lexington, died Sunday, February 10 at the nursing facility after declining health. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Churchland Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Ray N. Howell IV. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Koontz was born February 9, 1913 in Davidson County to Grover Barnes and Zella Michael Barnes. She retired from NC Finishing Company in Spencer after 40 years of service. She was a member of Churchland Baptist Church, where she had been a member of the Choir. Her husband, Cicero Paul Lopp, her brother, Hal Barnes, Sr., and her sister, Louise Dennis, preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Max Barnes of Salisbury, her sisters: Ruth Parks of Albemarle and Ann Scully, of W. Springfield, MA; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday at the Church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Churchland Baptist Church, 7516 NC Highway 150 South, Lexington NC 27295 or to the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, 820 Klumac Road, Salisbury NC 28144.
