Irene Frances Koonts

Mrs. Irene Frances Koonts, 100, of Lexington died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe Marler officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Koonts was born in Davidson County July 11, 1916 to George Henry and Zella Frances Leonard Ridenhour. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Tabernacle. Preceding her in death was her husband, Floyd “Kas” Koonts, her parents, brother George Kermit Ridenhour, and sisters Madeline Gordon and Wilma Weaver. Surviving are son Thomas Koonts; daughters Clara Swicegood, Doris Owen (Bobby), Diane Dagenhart, and Peggy Kearns all of Lexington; grandchildren Jeffrey Mitchell (Teresa), Davie Kearns, Keith Owen (Sue), Luann Hawkins, Cindy Grentzinger, Lisa Hughes (Rick), Dale Koonts, Dana Koonts , Dawn Kennedy (Stephen), Billy Clayton Dagenhart, Kendra Miller (Rob) and Angie Dorsett (Jason); fifteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. A special thanks goes out to those who cared for her during the last seven years and was with her until the end. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wayside Baptist Tabernacle, 106 Forest Hill Road, Lexington, NC, 27295.
