Ruth Bethune Trexler passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family at her home in Lexington, NC.
Ruth was born on February 18, 1942, in Davidson County to Raymond and Sable Bethune. She spent her formative years in the close-knit community of Lexington, NC.
Her educational journey led her to graduate from North Davidson High School in 1960, setting the stage for a lifetime of dedication and service.
Ruth spent most of her professional career in banking. At Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, NC, she displayed keen intellect and a strong commitment to her work. Her colleagues remember her as a consummate professional with an innate ability to connect with clients and coworkers alike.
Throughout Ruth's life, she enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, especially after her retirement from the bank. Within the United States, she visited more than a dozen states, especially cherishing family trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, and Key West, FL. Internationally, she traveled to England, Spain, Bermuda, Germany, Canada, and France. Her enthusiasm for history and genealogy inspired many journeys to trace her ancestors’ footsteps and uncover the stories of their lives.
Ruth was predeceased by her loving parents, Raymond and Sable Bethune; her brother-in-law, Paul O. Lanier; and her nephew, Kenneth E. Lanier, whose memories she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Bette B. Lanier; her cherished niece, Paula L. Bradshaw; her nephew, Kevin Lanier; and her grand-nephew, Michael Bradshaw. Ruth's family was her greatest treasure, and she held them close to her heart throughout her life.
In Ruth's final days, she was cared for with extraordinary compassion by Bridget Higdon, to whom the family extends their deepest gratitude. The family also wishes to acknowledge the unwavering support of Hospice, where donations may be made in lieu of flowers, honoring Ruth's generous spirit and her desire to give back to those in need.
Ruth was a longtime member of Jersey Baptist Church in Lexington, NC, where she found fellowship and community. She drew strength from her faith throughout her life.
A private ceremony will be held at the church to celebrate Ruth's life, reflecting the intimate and personal connections she held dear. Reverend Paul Batson will officiate the service, and arrangements are being handled by Piedmont Funeral Home.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Ruth's spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Ruth Bethune Trexler’s legacy is one of love and resilience, a testament to a life lived with grace and purpose. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten, as her memory continues to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
