Hoyle Clifton Potts

Hoyle Clifton “Pooter” Potts, age 89 of Brookdale of Lexington passed away Thursday afternoon at Hinkle Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2020 in the Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery with Honor’s given by Davidson County Fireman’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.

Hoyle was born in Forsyth County January 12, 1931 to Dowery Potts and Wilma Beck Potts. Hoyle was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ; he was a retired Assistant Chief with City of Lexington Fire Department with 40 years of service, retiring in 1995. He taught fire service training at Davidson County Community College from 1968 until 1980. He was an avid deer hunter and was a member of Granville County Hunting Club and served in the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Betty Nichols Potts; a son, Greg Potts and his sister, Becky Stephenson.

Surviving are his daughter, Lynn Brown (Mike) of Lexington; son, Rick Potts (Edie) of Mocksville; grandchildren, Katie Decker (Shane), Sarah Watkins (Matt), Daniel Potts (Rachel), and Amanda Truell; great-grandchildren, Callie, Austin, Lula-Grace, Noah, Luke, Gillian and Macon and his brother, John Potts (Jeanette) of Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to, First Reformed United Church of Christ, City of Lexington for fireman’s training and Hospice of Davidson County.
