Helen Irene Smith Washburn, 74, of Fowler Avenue, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at her residence. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Second Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Bea Edwards Copeland. Interment will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Washburn was born Nov. 9, 1931, in Davidson County to George Ramos Smith and Ester Mae Leonard Smith. She was a retired employee of Mid-State Tile and a member of the Friendly Sunday School Class and a former member of the church choir at her church. She was a member of VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8 and Woodmen of the World. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Archie Leo Washburn, and a brother, Paul Smith. Surviving are three daughters, Linda Greene, Rebecca Rickard and her husband, Carlton, and Joyce Perrell and her husband, Charlie, all of Lexington; one son, Archie L. "Leo" Washburn Jr. and his wife, Debra, of Morganton; two sisters, Annie Stanley and her husband, Garland, and Hazel Little, all of Christmas, Fla., Frances Bates and her husband, Tommy of Lexington; three brothers, R.J. Smith, Stevie Smith and George Smith,Jr. all of Lexington; three grandchildren, Stacy Rose and her husband, Randy, and Michael Everhart and his wife, Michelle, all of Lexington, and Benjy Greene of High Point; two great-grandchildren, Walker Rose and Emily Everhart, both of Lexington; and four special sisters-in-law, Frances Washburn and her husband, Frank, Gloria Washburn, Virginia Katen and Iris Mauney and her husband, Tom. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Choir Fund of Second Presbyterian, P.O.
