Helen Smith Byerly

Mrs. Helen Marguarite Smith Byerly, age 88, a resident of Centerclair Nursing Center, formerly of Paul Beck Road, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 10:15 AM in Centerclair. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM in Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Byerly was born in Davidson County, NC on February 24, 1919 to the late Hubert and Iva Yarbrough Smith. She had worked for twenty-six years with Lexington Memorial Hospital, and retired from Henry Link Furniture as a Plant Nurse. She was a member of Second United Church of Christ, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 3074. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death was her husband, Fredrick Lynn Byerly, Sr., and (1) son. Also a brother, Charles H. Smith, and a sister, Catherine Smith preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Fred Byerly, Jr. and his wife, Lakema of Lexington, two brothers William Lee Smith and his wife, Betty of Thomasville, and Richard F. Smith and his wife, Alveria of High Point. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Patricia Lynn Jones and her husband, Jeff, and two great grandchildren, Aaron Drake and Cassidy Lynn. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at 12 Paul Beck Road.
