Grimes Everett Potts

Grimes E. Potts, 87, of Tyro School Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at his residence. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Tyro, where he was a member, by the Rev. Dr. David Nelson. Interment will be in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Mr. Potts was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Davie County to Eddie Potts and Myrtle Hartley Potts. He was a retired employee of the N.C. Finishing Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II aboard the USS Wisconsin. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Lottie Swicegood Potts; a son, Ronnie Potts; a granddaughter, Meredith Ellen Potts; and four sisters, Inez Wilson, Vida Davis, Loretta Walser and Juanita Bailey. Surviving are one daughter, Judy VonCanon and her husband, Perry, of Salisbury; one son, Richard Potts and his wife, Jo Ellen, of Concord; one sister, Shirley Shore of Spring Lake; two brothers, Mib Potts and Calvin Potts of Linwood; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his loving companion, Frances Rothrock of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 4299 N.C. Highway 150 South, Lexington, NC 27295; Meredith Ellen Potts Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Peace College, 15 E. Peace St., Raleigh, NC 27604; or to the Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, 875-A W. Henderson St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
