George Dewey Knill,Jr., 95, of Mayfair Road, Lexington, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Alston Brook Nursing Center. A crypt side service will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Sam Harvey officiating. There will be no visitation. Mr. Knill was born in Bucklodge, Maryland on February 27, 1920 to George Dewey Knill, Sr., and Beulah Reid Knill, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were son Kyland Knill, daughter Tammy White, brother Jack Knill, and sisters Dorothy Brown and Helen Cratty. Mr. Knill was a former ice plant owner and was of the Christian Faith. He served as a volunteer for the U.S. Coast Guard, loved nature, and enjoyed farming. Surviving are his wife, Norma Acosta Knill of the home; sons, Kirby Knill (wife Kitty)of Baltimore Maryland, Allen Green (wife Mary Beth)of Durham, Phillip Green (wife Tina) of Lexington, and James Sanderson (wife Jessie) of Cary; daughters Kathleen Bouw (husband Albert) of Hagerstown, MD, Gail Reid (husband Ray) of Sparta, SC, Sally Owen of Lexington, and Charlotte Peterson of Mt. Holly; and 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister-in-law Ruth Knill of Martinsburg, WVa. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the care George received from the staffs of Alston Brook and Hospice of Davidson County.
