Gene Lloyd Foley, age 81, a resident of Mt. Moriah Drive, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, in Winston-Salem after being in declining health for several years. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from the Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jerry Moore officiating. Interment with Military rites will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mr. Foley was born in Henry County, Virginia on January 20, 1927 to the late Aaron L. Foley and Minnie Hollinsworth Foley. He was a retired Pipe Fitter with Union Local 687, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WW II. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his wife, Lula Mae Ward Foley; she died on September 20, 1992. He is survived by a daughter, Wilma Jean Lewter of Myrtle Beach, SC; a step daughter, Martha Hunt and her husband, Jerry of Lexington; four step sons, Stan Lanning and his wife, Barbara, Steve Lanning and his wife Margo, Wayne Lanning and his wife, Jeanie and Joe Lanning and his wife, Jane all of Lexington; four brothers, Thomas Foley and his wife, Nancy of Fieldale, Virginia; Wallace Foley of Lakeland, Florida; David Foley and his wife, Brenda of Patrick Springs, Virginia; and Winford Foley and his wife, Dorothy of Spencer, Virginia; a sister, Barbara Hopkins of Bassett, Virginia. Also surviving are two very special grandsons, Greg Marble and his wife, Tina and Scott Marble and his wife, Jennifer, a great grandson, Dennis Marble, seven step grandchildren, and eleven step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at their respective homes. Those desiring to send memorials may send them to; Kate B.
