Gary Wayne Burton

October 16, 1957 — July 26, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Burton, who departed this life on July 26, 2025, in Ramseur, North Carolina. Born on October 16, 1957, in Lexington, North Carolina, Gary lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Piedmont Funeral Home with Dr. Don Clement officiating. A visitation will take place an hour prior to starting at 10:00 a.m.

Gary found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman, always eager to cast his line and enjoy the tranquility of the water. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan, with a particular fondness for driver Chase Elliott, and he never missed a race. Beyond his hobbies, Gary found solace and satisfaction in the tasks of mowing and yardwork, taking pride in maintaining a beautiful and well-kept property. He was also a proud member of the Eagle Scouts for over 20 years. Professionally, Gary dedicated his career to Randolph City Schools as a school bus driver.  Gary will be especially missed by his beloved black German Shepherd, Rogue, who had his own recliner next to Gary’s big chair.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Burton, his sons: Keith Burton (Kim), Julius Kennedy, and Lucas Kennedy; and seven grandchildren: Leslie Kennedy, Lucas Kennedy Jr, Jonathan Burton, Nicholas Burton, Jonah Burton, Julia Burton, and Tyler Kennedy. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Burton and Eleanor Ruth Allen, and his son Jonathan Kyle Burton. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Though he may be gone, the impact Gary had on those around him will continue to resonate.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials can be made to the Randolph Cancer Center in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness.
