Fred Gilliland

Fred B. Gilliland, 83, a resident of N.C. Veterans Home in Salisbury, and formerly of Dacotah Street, died Sunday, July 5 at the Veterans Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 9 from the Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Allen Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Gilliland was born August 11, 1925 in Caldwell County to Nelson Milroy and Fannie Jane Stamey Gilliland. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lottie Hoover, a brother, James Gilliland, and a daughter, Sherry Barrett. He is survived by his daughter, Caroline E. Guzman of Lexington; his step-daughter, Anita Hughes of Lexington; his step-son, Leonard Turner of Granite Falls; his sisters, Nellie Moore of Hildebrand, Exie Houser of Connolly Springs, Susan Lingle of Connolly Springs, and Ruth Lingle of Springtown, TX; and a special friend, Dale Taylor of Lexington and Seven Grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Thursday at PIEDMONT FUNERAL HOME. Memorials may be made to Heavenly Sunlight Baptist Church, 400 W. Eighth Avenue, Lexington NC 27292
