Lawrence Fredrick “Fred” Collins, Jr., 57, a resident of Old Hargrave Road, Lexington, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:59 AM in Brian Center Nursing Care in Lexington. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM from Coggins Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member, with Rev. David Shaffer and Rev. Robert Heard officiating. Interment will follow in Jersey Baptist Church Cemetery. Fred was born in Rowan County on April 24, 1950, to the late Lawrence Fredrick Collins, and Margie Watkins Collins. He was a former employee of Sands & Company in Spencer, and later, he was a Diamond Representative, and Mortgage Broker. He was a former member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer, where he served on the Kitchen Committee. He enjoyed cooking, and playing golf. He loved his church, and was a loving husband, and father. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Gaye Collins of the home, a daughter, Brandi Wood Collins of Greensboro, two brothers, Darrell Collins of Winston-Salem, and Steve Collins of Lexington, two sisters, Pam Fortner and her husband, Bill of Salisbury, and Susie Thomas and her husband, David of Concord. The family will receive friends Monday, from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at the home of his sister in-law, Kaye Alley, 905 Wilson Road, Linwood.
