Franklin Dwight Smith

Franklin Dwight Smith, 79, of Sink Farm Road died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab Center in Salisbury. A funeral service will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 3:30 PM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where he was a member, by Pastor Jeff Hoffner and Dr. David Nelson. Interment will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 PM prior to the service at the church. Mr. Smith was born in Davidson County April 20, 1937 to Fred Raymond and Mary Leonard Smith. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation and was a former deputy sheriff for Davidson County. He loved to travel, and was a “jack-of-all-trades.” The seventh of seven sons, he was preceded in death by brothers Sam Woodrow Smith, Fred Raymond Smith, Paul Morrison Smith, Leonard Smith, John Carl Smith, and William Gerald (Bill) Smith, in addition to his parents. Surviving are his wife Barbara Nance Smith, whom he married November 2, 1963, of the home, sister-in-law Louise Smith of Lexington, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 South NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
