Evelyn Kimbrell Koontz

Evelyn Kimbrell Koontz, age 88, a resident South NC Highway 150, Lexington, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dr. David Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Koontz was born in York County, SC on September 17, 1918 to the late Thomas Kimbrell and Mamie Hayes Kimbrell. She retired from the Davidson County School system, after twenty-two years of service. She was a member of the Ladies circle, the church choir, and served her church in many other capacities. She was a former charter member of the Tyro Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were a brother, Thomas Kimbrell, Jr., and a sister, Jeanette Beck. She is survived by her loving husband, Elbert “Luke” Koontz of the home;, two daughters, Lynda E. Burrage of Rockwell, and Theresa K. Bruening and her husband, Bob, of Heathrow, Florida; a sister, Geneva Yarbrough of Lexington. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Richard Smith and his wife, Vickie, Teddy Burrage, and Shane Burrage and his wife, Tracy; four great grandchildren, Allen Smith, Daniel Smith, Matthew Burrage, and Brandon Burrage. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service in Vanderford Hall at St Luke’s Lutheran Church.
