Ethel Bailey

Ethel Marie Bailey, 89, of West Fifth Avenue, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 22, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Walter Patten. Burial will be in Thomasville City Cemetery. Ethel was born in Davidson County on April 23, 1920, to William Henry Bailey and Maud Warner Bailey. She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ and the Craver Circle and was a Girl Scout leader. She was a graduate of Lexington High School, Draughn Business College and Jones Business College. She worked for the High Point Enterprise as social editor, worked for Siceloff Manufacturing as personal secretary and owned and operated Bailey's Antique Store on Winston Road until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Suelia "Sue" Bailey; four brothers, Clark "J.C." Bailey, John Thomas "Tom" Bailey, Joseph Burnam "J.B." Bailey and Edgar Lee "Bill" Bailey. She is survived by a sister, Sadie Bailey, of the home and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First Reformed United Church of Christ, 104 E. Center St., Lexington, NC 27292.
