Emery Elisha Raper Jr., 62, of Maegeo Drive, Lexington, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at his home. Mr. Raper was born Oct. 20, 1943, in Davidson County to Emery Elisha Raper Sr. and Mildred Ann Critcher Raper. He grew up in Lexington and was a graduate of High Point College. He was the owner and operator of Emery E. Raper Insurance Co., which was begun by his father. He was also a devoted member of Lexington Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president and a very active supporter of Kamp Kiwanis. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Vann Critcher Raper. Surviving are his mother, Mildred Ann Raper, of Lexington; daughter Melissa Raper Schmidt and husband, John, of Raleigh; stepson Jeff Martin of Charlotte; brother Thomas Eugene Raper and wife, Jan, of Wake Forest and their children, Sarah and Meredith; grandchildren Ryan Schmidt and Ray Schmidt; special friend BeJay Nester of Burlington and her five sons and their wives and grandchildren; and numerous cousins and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Lindquist and the Rev. John Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall, and at other times at the home of his mother, 611 Peachtree St., Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kamp Kiwanis Foundation, c/o Fidelity Bank, 114 W.
