Elva Ward

Elva Leonard Ward, 66, of Boone's Cave Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at High Point Regional Hospital. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Terry Smith and David Wooten. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Ward was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Davidson County to David Baxter and Lora Smith Leonard. She had worked in the cafeteria at Tyro Middle School for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Leonard; her son-in-law, Barry Shipton; and a grandson. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Giles Ward of the home; her daughters, Deborah Beck and her husband, Charlie, and Victoria Shipton, all of Linwood; her son, David Michael Ward and his wife, Sara, of Lexington; her sister, Bobbie Haley of Lexington; her brothers, David Leonard Jr. of Lexington and William Leonard of Conway, S.C.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
