Elsie Rickman Laws

Elsie Elizabeth Rickman Laws, age 86, a resident of Carolina House, formerly of E.L. Myers Road, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. David Robinson and Rev. Royce Stone. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Laws was born on July 2, 1921 in Swain County to David Walter Rickman and Sarah Elizabeth Marr Rickman. She retired from Dixie Furniture after 28 years of service and enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She was truly devoted to her family and her church. Mrs. Laws was very active at Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a charter member. She leaves behind a lasting testimony to her church and to the glory of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Rufus Laws; two daughters: Thelma Nasi and Edith York; a brother, Lee Rickman, and a sister, Latta Rickman. Surviving are her sons: Lawrence Laws and wife, Shelia, and Johnnie Laws, and wife, Ellen, both of Lexington; her daughters: Lillian Michael and husband, Allen Ray, Ruby Taylor and husband, Buddy, both of Lexington, Judy Stanley of Thomasville, and Ruth Laws of High Point; a sister, Bertha DeHart of Bryson City; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Ruby Taylor, 305 Glenwood Drive, Lexington.
