Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Rachels Wood, 85, formerly of Tyro School Road died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Abbott’s Creek Care and Rehabilitation. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. David Wooten. Interment will follow in Yadkin College Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the home of the son, Henry Wood on Giles Road. Mrs. Wood was born in Davidson County on July 1, 1931 to William Richard and Eva Derotha Creed Rachels. A member of Yadkin College United Methodist Church, she attended Lakeview Baptist Church and was retired from the former Dacotah Cotton Mill. She loved feeding and watching the birds and also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Johnny Moody, and brothers Robert, Hoytt, Lonnie, and Aubrey Rachels. Surviving are sons Henry Wood (Phyllis) of Lexington and Roger Wood of Albemarle; daughter Lynn Wood Moody of Lexington; grandchildren Greg, Jo, Ann, Jan, Becky, Beth, and Travis; great-grandchildren Keeli, Morgan, Brandi, Logan, Maddie, Grace, Jacob, Allison, and Mark, Jr.; and sister Pearl Walser of Lexington.
