Effie Mcelrath Kivett

Effie Cornelia McElrath “Dot” Kivett, age 89, a resident of Brookstone Retirement Center, Lexington, formerly of Troy McElrath Road, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 9:15 AM, in Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 12, 2007 from the Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Kivett was born in Buncombe County, NC on June 14, 1918 to the late Perry Plemmons and Savannah Lee Warren McElrath. She was a retired employee of Cone Mills in Salisbury and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Gene C. Kivett, two sisters, Lula Rash and Bessie Rich, four brothers, Otis McElrath, Lloyd McElrath, Clarence McElrath, and Mountain McElrath. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Fitzgerald, and her husband, Bill of Winston-Salem; two sons, Gary Lee Whitaker, and his wife, Carol of Lexington; and Rev. Charles Whitaker, and his wife Shirley of Winston-Salem; a brother, Troy McElrath of Lexington. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:45 AM until 10:45 AM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at their respective homes In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society, PO Box 1791, Lexington, NC 27293
