Doris Heitman, age 93, of Mt. Carmel Rd., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Davidson Health and Rehab on July 23, 2024. Doris was born on November 4th, 1930 in Davidson County, NC, to Carl Wayne Byrd and Gladys Owens Byrd. She grew up in the Erlanger community of Lexington with her brothers Pete and Mickey Byrd. Doris graduated from high school in Davidson County and went on to a fulfilling career as an Accounts Payable Clerk at RJR/Sealand. Doris was dedicated to her work and made many lasting friendships throughout her career, including business travels. She was a lifelong member of Reeds United Methodist Church, where she held the distinction of being the oldest member in attendance. Doris's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she actively participated in church activities and community outreach. Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years James Heitman, her brothers Pete and Mickey Byrd, and her son-in-law, Donnie Tate. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jeanine Tate; sons, Jim Heitman and wife Karon of Spartanburg, SC, and Tim Heitman and wife Lilly of Lexington NC. Doris also leaves behind six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and cherished deeply. Doris will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and dedication to her family and community. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A graveside service to celebrate Doris Heitman's life will be held at Reeds United Methodist Church on Friday, July 26th at 4:00 pm led by Reverend Ray Morgan The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Davidson Health and Rehab and Hospice of Davidson County for their compassionate care of Doris during her time there.
