Donald Ray Simerson

HEADING: Donald Ray Simerson, 82, of Sowers Road, died Monday at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Donald was born in Davidson County on January 22, 1933 to the late Sidney Clay Simerson and Emma Mae Alley Simerson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Curby Simerson. He was formerly employed with Finetex Chemical Co. and was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Donald joined the National Guard in January of 1951, while still in school and was in the Guard from 1951-1955. He graduated in May of 1951 from Churchland High School. He loved gardening and loved his children and grandchildren. Surviving are, his loving wife of 56 years,whom he married on May 16, 1958, Jacquelyn Ward Simerson of the home; sons, William “Billy” Simerson and Douglas Simerson and wife Tammy of Linwood; brother, Richard Simerson of Matthews; sister, Maxine Brooks of Lexington; and grandchildren, Jenny Brinkle and husband Jason, Cody Simerson and wife Hanna, and Jordan Simerson. Family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Saturday April 11, 2015 at Smith Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall. No public service will be held. Memorials may be made to, Smith Grove Baptist Church, 3462 Sowers Rd., Linwood,NC 27299.
