Dillard Cecil Payne, 80, of Sink Farm Rd. died Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Lutheran Home in Salisbury. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 27 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Howard Baker officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday prior to the funeral service. Mr. Payne was born July 15, 1931 in Swain County to R.G. Payne and Dora Stanford Payne. He was a veteran of the US Army and later retired from Duracell. His brothers, Roy Payne, Grady Payne, and Estes Payne, and his sisters, Thelma Payne, Vadie Queen, and Eva Queen, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Jean Nance Payne of the home; his daughter, Merriett Payne, of the home; his brothers, Lorenza Payne and Fessie Payne, both of Lexington; and his sister, Lucy Starr, of Lexington.
