Dewey Byrd, Sr.

Mr. Dewey Leroy Byrd, Sr., 87, of Walser Road died Saturday, June 6, 2020 at his home. A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. Jeff Walser. The family welcomes friends to briefly greet them after the service at the cemetery. Mr. Byrd was born September 15, 1932 in Durham County to the late Handy Mentson and Arietta Crawley Byrd. A member of Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, he was a US Army Veteran, and had retired from PPG Industries. He was predeceased by brothers Menson and Ralph Byrd, and sisters Pansy Wall, Judy Dickens, and Louise Revill. Surviving are his wife Daphne Church Byrd of the home; sons David Byrd (Debbie) and Dewey Byrd, Jr. (Alma) all of Lexington; daughter Donna Causey (Phillip Jones) of Lexington; brothers Raymond Byrd (Martha) of Rutherfordton, and Jack Byrd (Margaret), Jerry Byrd (Sallie), James Byrd (Judy) , and Roger Byrd (Betty) all of Lexington; and sister Yvonne Wilson of Lexington. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
