Danette Raye Garner

October 24, 1966 — April 4, 2025

Danette Raye Lawson Garner, 58, of Lexington, NC, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Danette leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service to others.

Born on October 24, 1966, Danette was a light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Her passion for helping others led her to dedicate many years of her life to Family Services of Davidson County, where she made a lasting impact on countless families in her community. Her heart for service, coupled with her deep compassion, made her a true pillar of support to those around her.

Danette’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving and supportive wife to her husband of six years, Michael Eugene Garner, and a proud mother to Nicholas (Jessica) Scott Edwards and stepmother to Joshua (Faith) Eugene Garner. Her grandsons Wesley Acord, Bryson Acord, Hudson Garner, Casey Edwards, and Beau Edwards brought her endless happiness and pride. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

She also leaves behind her beloved mother, Mollie Alexander Lawson, and her sisters Shelia Johnson, Rena (Scott) Cilluffo, and Terri (Michael) Clement, who were not only her family but her lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Lonnie Ray Lawson, whose memory she carried close to her heart.

Danette had a true zest for life. She loved baking treats for loved ones, walking along the shores of Carolina Beach, digging in the garden, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved. Her faithful dog, Teddy, was always by her side, a constant companion and comfort.

Deeply involved in her community, Danette never hesitated to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or go the extra mile to help someone in need. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched everyone she met.

Though her time here was far too short, Danette’s legacy will live on through the lives she touched, the love she gave, and the memories she created. She was gone too soon and will be missed more than words can express.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Piedmont Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Timberlake Chapel of Piedmont Funeral Home with Pastor David Edwards officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Family Services of Davidson County. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.piedmontfuneralhome.com.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.”
