Dale Everett Potts was born on July 11, 1925 in Villa Grove, IL to Ira Walter and Irene Mabel Mast Potts. He graduated from Villa Grove High School and attended Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute, IN. He earned a Bachelors Degree at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL, and a Master’s Degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He was retired from the Arlington County (VA) Public School System, where he taught junior high and high school mathematics for many years. Mr. Potts was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in the European theater. After retirement he and his second wife, Joanne, relocated to Lexington, NC, where they were members of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Raymond D. Potts (Russell Anne) of Walterboro, SC, and Ralph B. Potts of Fredericksburg, VA; three grandchildren, Courtney Potts of Bluffton, SC, Cameron (Jillian) Potts of West Hills, CA, and Kendall Potts of McGregor, MN; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Congleton, Wyatt Potts and Ruby Potts. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Raymond Potts, his sister Marjorie Blakeney, his first wife Martha Lou Potts and his second wife Joanne Potts.
A memorial service will be held on January 3 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church and will be led by Rev. Dr. Ray Howell. A reception will be held after the service at the church.
