Clyde Hanes, 86, of Brian Center Drive, formerly of the Currytown community on N.C. Highway 150 North, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at the Brian Center of Lexington after several years of declining health. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Currytown Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael McDaniel. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Hanes was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Davidson County to Baxter Eugene and Effie Berrier Hanes. He was the retired owner of Currytown Grocery and Barbershop. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army serving during World War II and was a member of Reeds American Legion Post 162. Mr. Hanes always loved to volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Davidson County Transportation and loved to help the less fortunate and handicapped. He loved to attend and call square dances and took great pride in his turnip patch, which was always open to anyone who wanted them. Mr. Hanes was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Eugene, Holland and Shady Hanes; and a sister, Gurla Mae Freedle. Surviving are his wife, Aline Triplett Hanes of the home; one daughter, Kelly Craver and her husband, Lee, of Lexington; one son, Kenny Hanes and his wife, Tracy, of Lexington; two sisters, Bertie Swicegood and her husband, Elmer, of Lexington and Lucille Wray and her husband, Carl, of Clemmons; one brother, Hoyle Hanes and his wife, Dorothy, of Lexington; five grandchildren, Cassidy Craver, Baylee Craver, Abigail Hanes, Claire Craver and Carter Hanes; and special friends Tim and Kay Johnston.
