Chester Howard

March 21, 1929 — March 5, 2008

Hugh Chester Howard, age 78, a resident of Swicegood Road, Linwood, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Lexington Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2008 from the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Howard Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Mr. Howard was born in Davie County, NC on March 21, 1929 to the late Ellis Howard and Lila McKnight Howard. He retired from Henry Link Furniture in 1996, after 45 years of service, and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. At his church, he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, and would be called on often, when there was woodworking to be done in the church. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were two brothers, George Howard, and Dallas McKnight, and a sister, Carol Howard. Surviving are his wife, Doris Snider Howard of the home, a son, Timothy Howard, and his wife, Donna of Linwood, a daughter, Nelda Bennett and her husband, Charles of Linwood, two sisters, Edith Beck and Ruth Beck both of Mocksville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Todd Bennett and his wife, Hillary, and Brynn Coates and her husband, Nick, four great grandchildren, Brandon Bennett, Mycaela Bennett, Hugh Ellis Bennett, and Bain Miller Bennett, step grandchildren, Dana Holt, Gina Bennett, Jason Lemly, Josh Lemly, Toby Lemly, and Jessica Lemly, step great grandchildren, Anson Lemly, and J.P. Uzzell. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Home and other times will be at the residence.
