Charles Jefferson “C.J.” Everhart, Jr., 87, of Hwy 150, Churchland, died Sunday, July 19, 2009. The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. , Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Churchland Baptist Church, by the Rev. Ray Nance Howell, IV, and Rev. Brian Darr. Burial will follow in the Lomax Family Cemetery in Churchland , with Graveside Rites by VFW Post 3074. Mr. Everhart was born October 13, 1921 in Davidson County to the late Charles Jefferson Everhart, Sr. and Minnie Alice Gray Everhart. Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Judy Marilyn Everhart, one brother, Jim Everhart, and three sisters, Margaret Briggs, Mabel Ruth Anderson, and Wilma Wilson. Mr. Everhart was a member of Churchland Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, member of the Choir, a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Counselor. He served in the US Army Air Corp as a member of the 6th Bomb Group, 40th Squadron, Tinian Island, during World War II, and was a member of the VFW Post 3074, and the American Legion Post 8. He served as scoutmaster with the Boy Scout Troop 233 for over 30 years. He served with the EMT and was a former captain of Churchland Volunteer Fire Dept. and a founding member of Piedmont Telephone Company. Mr. Everhart was a retired carpenter and was employed with NC Finishing Company, with 30 years of service. He was also a charter member of the Churchland Lions Club and in his later years, managed driving ranges. Mr. Everhart is survived by his wife Mary Bell (Muriel ) Wilson Everhart, three daughters Susan Gay Darr and her husband Mike of Winston-Salem, Rosemary Ohnesorge and her husband Steve of Morganton, N.C. and Dorene Snider and her husband Eric of Reeds, N.C., one son Charles J. Everhart, III, and his wife Glenda of Lexington; three brothers, Eugene Everhart and wife Betty of Lexington, Dr. Carlton Everhart and his wife Dee of Cana, VA, and Hoyle Everhart of CA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Rev. Brian Darr, Anthony Darr, Amy Boyte and her husband Jonathan, Carrie Leonard and her husband T.J., Grant Snider, Lauren Ohnesorge, and Paige Ohnesorge; two great-grandchildren, Alison Leonard, and Grace Boyte. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Churchland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall . Memorials may be made to Churchland Baptist Church Building Fund, 7516 NC Highway 150, South, Lexington, NC 27295. PIEDMONT FUNERAL HOME IS IN Charge of the arrangements.
