James Larry “Butch” Barnes, 67, of Gil Mac Dr., Lexington died Wednesday at his home after declining health of one year. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Tyro United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Randy Foster. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery with military honors provided by The Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Butch was born in Davidson County on September 24, 1946 to Norine Barnes Walser. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and daughters, Jenny Rene Barnes and Beth Rene’ Beavers. A US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of Reeds American Legion Post 162, a life member of VFW Post 3074, a life member of Amvets Post 13, a member of The Purple Heart Chapter 638, a life member of the DAV Lexington 39, and a member of the VFW Honor Guard. An avid NASCAR fan he liked to fish, and farmed as a hobby. He was formerly employed as a truck driver for Billings Trucking Company. Surviving are his wife, Elsie Osborne Barnes of the home; son Gerry Beavers and wife Christine of Louisville, KY; daughters Lisa Hunt and husband Scott of Hampstead, Jamie Benton and husband Wesley of Lexington, and Marie Howard and husband David of Albemarle; half-brothers Gil Walser of Shelby, and Brad Walser of Churchland; half-sisters, Ginger Stockton of Churchland, Cathy Berrier of Reeds, and Saba Davis of Linwood; grandchildren Seth Hunt, Jerry Beavers, Nicole Deasey, Abigail Hunt, Elizabeth Beavers, Hannah and Kailey Benton; and three special furry friends, Jake, Mutt Tucker, and Penny.
