Billy Lamar Coleman, 69, Shetter Avenue, Jacksonville, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Baptist Medical Center-Beaches in Jacksonville. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Harold Fletcher. Interment will be in Lexington City Cemetery with military graveside rites by Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Coleman was born July 12, 1937, in Davidson County to Ernest Bruce Coleman Sr. and Zula Beatrice Wrenn Coleman. Mr. Coleman served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division and was a retired carpenter. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Ernest Bruce Coleman Jr., Ralph Waldo Coleman and Burnette Coleman; and three sisters, Phyllis Crime, Frances Berrier and Alice Roberts. Surviving are one sister, Flora Lee VanHoy and her husband, R.G. VanHoy Jr. of Lexington; one brother, Louis Coleman and his wife, Louise, of Lexington; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of Louis Coleman on Dellwood Drive. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
