Benny B. Lopp

November 22, 1926 — September 24, 2008

Benny B. Lopp of Lakewood Drive, died Thursday in Magnolia Creek Assisted Living Center in Winston-Salem. He was 81. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Chapel of Piedmont Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Ray Howell III and Rev. Tommy Wilson. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery with graveside rites by the Davidson County Rescue Squad Honor Guard. Benny was born in Davidson County on November 22, 1926 to the late Bennie Gilmer Lopp and Mary Velna Yarborough Lopp. He was a retired employee of Lucent Technologies and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Benny was an avid Tarheel fan, enjoyed playing Golf, and was a member of the City Club of Lexington. He had served with the Davidson County Rescue Squad for fifty years and was a former member of the Lexington Kiwanis Club. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a brother, Tommy Lopp, and a sister, Mary Nell Jonas. Benny is survived by his wife Mildred Lindsey Lopp of the home, a daughter, Nancy Lopp Hedrick and her husband Ken, of Lexington, a son, Benny Lopp, Jr., and his wife Lynne, of Shelby. Also surviving are a nephew, Walter Lindsey, two nieces, Laura Lindsey and Leigh Kiser, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and others times will be at the home, on Lakewood Drive. Memorials in Benny’s memory may be sent to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 436, Lexington, NC, or to the Davidson County Rescue Squad, PO Box 122, Lexington, NC 27293 or to the Donor’s choice.
