Mrs. Beatrice Canter Scates, 87, of Lexington peacefully drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Lexington Health Care. A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Preacher Mike Orman conducting services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Scates was born in Watauga County March 20, 1935 to the late Ralph Olen and Bessie Eisenhower Canter. A homemaker, she was a member of Pilgrim Freewill Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her husband Wallace Scates; brothers Virgil and Frank Canter, and sisters, Lillimae Deardroff, Pauline Berrier, Verlee Canter, and Eva Lee Sholtz. Surviving are son Leroy Scates (Debbie) of Lexington; daughters Kathy Gibson (Thurman) and Brenda Deaton (Ricky) all of Lexington; grandchildren Lisa MacFarland (Scott), Amy Blankenship (Bobby), Chris Scates (Rena), Jamie Koontz (Chris), Lori Norocki (Joseph), Tina York Fulbright (Zeb); and great-grandchildren, Devin, Luca, Joseph, Caeley, Savanna, Landyn, Zoie, Hunter, and Conner. Also surviving are sisters Ethel Greer (Kenneth) of Morganton, Mary Moody (Michael) of Lexington, and Virginia Dancy (Bill), Phyllis Church, and Barbara Ann Miller (Robert) all of Boone.
