Barbara Ann Smith

Barbara Ann Stoddard Smith, 66, of Horseshoe Neck Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, after an illness of four and a half years. A private service will be held later. Ms. Smith was born Aug. 24, 1940, in Corry, Pa., to Melvin Stoddard and Bernice Bensink Stoddard. She was a retired registered nurse, having retired from Rowan Regional Medical Center. She had previously been employed in the Critical Care Department for 20 years at Lexington Memorial Hospital. In addition to her father, preceding her in death were a twin son and daughter, who died at birth. Surviving are three daughters, Lorri Neely, Tammi Miller and her husband, Alan, and Pegi Freedle and her husband, Randy, all of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Joshua Stamper, Nicholas Neely, Matthew Neely, Adam Miller, Grant Miller, Keri Beth Tripp and Brandon Freedle; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah Stamper, Vanic Ean, Zachary Hayes and Jonathan Tripp; her mother of Corry, Pa.; three brothers, Gene Stoddard and Bernie Stoddard, both of Corry, Pa., and Dean Stoddard of Walnut Cove; two sisters: Sherry Wascak of Columbus, Pa., and Nancy Miller of Bear Lake, Pa.; and her former spouse, Gene Smith of Salisbury, who has cared for her during the last months of her life The family will receive friends at the home of a daughter, Tammi Miller, 842 Greensboro St. Ext., Lexington, NC 27295. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144. Piedmont Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
