Mrs. Anne McCabe Rives, 81, of Lexington, NC, departed the earth to reunite with her true love, Donald Rives, on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. She was a lifelong student, Democrat and collector of beautiful things and people. Her life was filled with art and text, but nothing made her green eyes sparkle more than her darling daughter Heather. (Dean Severino)
Anne was small, but she was mighty. She was a caretaker for and preceded by: her beloved son Michael, soulmate Don, parents Gladys & James McCabe and sister, Joan Grant.
Born in Pittsfield, MA and transplanted to Lexington, she made many lifelong friends. Having loved her career as a teacher, and having never let go of her Yankee politics, she was well prepared for the lively debates she regularly had at the Black Chicken Coffee Shop.
She and Don had adventures that spanned the globe. Walking through their home is a walk through an art gallery, through history, and most importantly through an epic love story. Life started for Anne when they found each other. Anne’s legacy will continue on through Heather, Dean and her adoring nieces & nephews.
Go to the opera, dig in the garden, appreciate art, stay curious, love fiercely, and vote blue. Libiamo ne' lieti calici, che la bellezza infiora; E la fuggevol, fuggevol ora s'inebri a voluttà.
Anne’s body will be taken from Piedmont Funeral Home to the residence on West Second Avenue on Friday where her family will see friends from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 29, at the Historic Chapel of Grace Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery.
