Alyce Marie Galko

Mrs. Alyce Marie Hubner Galko, 92, of Lexington, NC, formerly of LaPorte, Indiana died Friday, December 21, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Matt Miller. Alyce was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in LaPorte. In Lexington, Alyce was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Alyce was born September 8, 1926 to Edward and Margaret Hubner in Springfield, Illinois. The family moved to LaPorte in 1936 where Alyce grew up.  During WWII, Alyce was a member of Rosie Riveters. On February 7, 1948 Alyce married Walter Galko who preceded her in death July 15, 1992. Alyce worked at Indiana Moulding and Frame Co. in LaPorte where she was known for her skillful application of gold leafing until it closed in LaPorte. Alice and Walt moved to North Carolina to be closer to their children. Alyce then worked at T-I Industries until she retired. Alyce was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Bruce E. Galko, July 8, 2016, her brother James Hubner and sisters Mary Cook and Ruth Merchant.  Alyce is survived by her daughter Georgette and son-in-law Stanley Harenzo; daughter-in-law, Janie S. Galko; granddaughters Abbey Hedrick and her husband Jason, and Janice Justice; and great-grandchildren GraceLynn and Mason Hedrick who Alyce loved dearly.
