On January 26th, Adena Rae Swing Phillips Wall of Lexington went home to everlasting peace and life eternal in the comforting arms of her Lord and Savior. Adena was born October 2nd, 1937, the youngest of nine children to Roby Swing and Louise Beck, also of Lexington. She graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1956. In 1959 she was married to Daniel Webster Phillips II of Lexington, and they spent the first years of their union in Atlanta, GA where Adena attended Ashmore Business College. They eventually returned to Lexington to make their home and had two sons, Dan and David. Sadly, in 1963, Adena lost her husband due to illness. She was remarried in 1965 to William Harold Wall of Randleman and she continued to make her home in Lexington. Their union was to last 20 years and they had two sons, Rob and Stephen. Adena worked all her life and one early job that was fulfilling for her was at Metal Bed Rail Co in Lexington, where she performed secretarial duties. Adena's love of people and fashion eventually led her to spend the rest of her working years in retail sales. Over the years she worked at Gibson's Department Store, Wise Fashions, The Attic, Eparles, Cato, and Belk Lexington. She began with Belk when they were still downtown and retired at their current location after decades of service. Adena went on to work at the Old Homestead part-time after retirement. Barring the short time spent in Atlanta and also several recent years in Oak Island, NC where she lived with family, Adena always lived and made her home in Lexington. She always wanted to be close to her family and First Reformed UCC, her lifelong church. Adena served on the Consistory, ran daycare for choir practice, participated in numerous Crop Walks, and volunteered for many church-sponsored services such as Meals on Wheels. Adena is preceded in death by brothers Beecher Swing, Foil Swing, Roland Swing, and Reece Swing. And by sisters Polly Newkirk and Dee Smith. She is survived by sisters Caroline Honeycutt and Joe of High Point and by Nancy Andrus and Jan of Batesville, VA. Adena is survived by her children Dan Phillips and Belinda of Oak Island, David Wall and Roxanna of Lexington, Rob Wall and Tina of Winston-Salem, and Stephen Wall of Myrtle Beach. Also surviving are grandchildren Lindsay Phillips, Caylen Wall and Hailey, Daniel Phillips, Emily Wall, Meaghan Landreth and Jeremy, and Courtney Belk and Dale. Adena's great-grandchildren are Jayden Belk, Nora Landreth, and Savannah Belk. Services are being held at First Reformed UCC in Lexington on Friday February 3rd. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 12:30 to 1:30. Service is at 2:00 with graveside service immediately following at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Adena's name to Hospice of Davidson County.
